About Moth Belly Gallery…

Moth Belly is an artist owned and operated gallery, community event space, and arts media platform based in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. Started by local artists John Vochatzer and KT Seibert, it was founded in the fall of 2020 and has been open to the public with monthly exhibits and more since October of 2021. As an ever-growing platform, we are constantly striving to build and develop our organization in new directions, and are gradually working to include a variety of different events such as workshops, drawing nights, and open mics, all ages concerts, and more into our programming.

As an online platform we are dedicated to the exploration, documentation, and promotion of what we find to be the most interesting currents in contemporary art in San Francisco, the greater Bay Area, and the world at large. Our “Moth Belly Media” branch hosts our journalistic endeavors which began with the aim of chronicling the creative landscape of post-pandemic San Francisco. It has since grown into an all encompassing weblog focused on providing voice and exposure to artists, collectors, and creators of all varieties. We also publish a magazine of which we have now released two volumes and have embarked on a series of video interviews highlighting Bay Area creators and their stories.

With our exhibits we put a strong focus on emerging and underexposed artists, prioritizing San Francisco and Bay Area locals (you can find a running list of past exhibitions here.)

We have also been organizing and managing the First Thursday Art Walks of the Tenderloin/Lower Polk neighborhoods in San Francisco on a volunteer basis, and are actively engaged in connecting artists with exhibit opportunities at other local venues.

Lastly, we are fiscally sponsored by Intersection for the Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and we embrace DIY ethics of accessibility, sustainability, and anti-consumerism. Our working goal is to build a viable atmosphere where nobody is turned away and all are encouraged to participate and develop their creative talents.
